A True Story of a Home Invasion
I would like to share with you a true story of a home robbery that happened to a relative of mine. He lived with his wife and three children in a small apartment complex in Texas. He worked as a technology information specialist and has an eight to five work shift. His wife worked in a day care center from eight o'clock in the morning until noon. Every morning the wife would take the kids to school and she heads to work from there. They make a pretty good living and they have quite a few expensive possessions in their apartment. As any average American household, they did not take security as a primary concern. Of course they would make sure to lock every window and door before they leave the apartment but it turns out this was not enough to deter away the evil doers.
On a routine Thursday morning, the family members woke up and got ready to head out to their school or businesses. They made sure, as they always do to lock the doors and windows of the apartment very well before they left. They did not suspect anything to occur to their home or possessions, why would they, it will be impossible for anybody to enter the apartment right? Let us continue. The wife came from her day care job at about 12:30 in the afternoon as she would normally come. She climbed up the stairs to her apartment and was a little annoyed to find that the outdoor mat in front of their apartment's door was unusually misplaced. She was further shocked to find that the apartment's door was unlocked even though she was the last person to lock it after her husband and children left the house.
She started screaming once she entered the apartment. For a moment she thought she entered the wrong house. But within seconds she realized that this was her house … after the robbery! Almost everything electronic in the house was gone. Their big screen TV, DVD player, the kids' play station and XBox, all the music Cd's and DVD collection, and many more valuable items were no where to be found. The wife quickly ran to her bedroom to check on what is most important, her jewelry and ten thousand dollars of cash that she was going to deposit in the bank this same day. She quickly pulled the last drawer in her cupboard where she put the cash and jewelry last night, she immediately fainted, there was nothing in there. She woke up after a while and started weeping when she realized the disaster that had befallen the apartment. She called her husband and told him what happened. After that she called the police. The officers arrived after a short wait, and took finger prints found on some of the items in the house. A few years had gone by and the police was still not able to catch the perpetrators or return the stolen items.
This scenario can happen to any of us without an exception. Even though this family's members thought that by locking the windows and doors they were going to prevent an attack from occurring, they were obviously mistaken. This family could have prevented this entire scenario from happening if they thought for a moment about investing in a security system with surveillance cameras. Not only will the sight of such cameras deter away the criminals as soon as they realize their existence, but even if they did decide to enter the facility an alarm will be triggered that would scare them and notify the police authorities immediately. Do not make the same mistake that this family did, you could be the next victim, act today.
