Utilizing security technology to secure hospitals and healthcare Clinics
The variety of products of the security surveillance industry has vastly spread to reach almost every business and trade. Houses, apartments, businesses, public facilities, and even methods of transportation have all benefited immensely from this technology. Any location where there is a considerable amount of human interaction should most definitely be monitored, since human error and misconduct are bound to happen. This is due to the fact that every individual comes from a unique and distinct background which is distinct from everyone else, and sometime ideas and beliefs oppose each other. The only way to be fair to every party in case of an argument or a misunderstanding, is to record everything using video and audio surveillance systems.
High on the list of places that should be monitored are hospitals and medical clinics. A great deal of human interaction goes on in these faculties since they serve a wide variety of people from all kinds of backgrounds and cultures. These facilities should always be monitored for several reasons that all lead to making this medical environment safe and secure for employees as well as patients.
To start with, installing these cameras will generally decrease the amount of crime and illegal activity on any property; this of course is much needed in all hospitals. By setting up these cameras you are sending a clear message to any evil-doer to perform his misconducts away from your facility otherwise he will be prosecuted; fake cameras take advantage of this scare. Fake or dummy cameras are realistic looking cameras that are not functional in reality. Since most, if not all, thieves and intruders can not distinguish the real from the fake they usually end up avoiding invading a place with such high risk potential. However in the case of hospitals and other facilities real cameras should always be used in order to catch criminals red handed.
Recently in the news, an Israeli hospital put security technology to the test by installing a security surveillance camera in the rooms of the critically sick patients. Not only were they able to monitor the status of their patients, but they were also able to monitor the patience surroundings. A recent surveillance video from this hospital reached the news. An unconscious patient was shown in the video sitting on a chair in his hospital room with all sorts of support tubes connected to his body. When suddenly a man appears in the room, he looks at the patient; he soon realizes that he is either sleeping or unconscious. He quickly looks outside the door to make sure nobody was watching him. He then ventures in the room, apparently looking for something valuable to steal. He does not find anything except the patient's cellular phone besides him. He slowly approaches the table next to the patient and snatches the cell phone, takes a quick look back at the unconscious man and immediately leaves the room. Luckily, the entire incident was recorded by the surveillance cameras and the man was later fined for his misconduct.
The ability to monitor patients and vulnerable locations in the hospital or medical clinic is a huge advantage delivered by a security cameras system. Incase of an invasion by intruders the hospitals employees as well as the police can monitor the events live by simply visiting an internet site and providing a username and password. This also comes very handy when monitoring elderly patients or those in critical conditions as well as surveying visitors.
When someone is watching you, you act differently, and that is a fact, even if you are being watched by a child. This is true in all people; they behave in an ideal accepted manner when they are being supervised. Unfortunately, no supervisor can keep an eye on everything that their employees do, but you can only guarantee that with a security cameras system. You can only judge your workers by their productivity and security cameras allow you to monitor that most accurately. If you have a couple of laid back workers they will reconsider their unacceptable behavior as soon as they realize that they are being monitored. On the other hand if you have honest workers who are already working hard, knowing that someone is watching over them will only make them maintain their good work and not even think of acting otherwise.
Various arguments and disputes can also be settled by referring back to the recorded video footage to deal with the situation in a fair and just manner. These misunderstandings, and sometimes violent behaviors, are bound to happen from one time to the other. But security cameras will always be there as evidence to who started the incident, and as a reminder and memory to decrease or eliminate these unwanted occurrences in the future.
Further more, having a security camera system can greatly aid in capturing misconduct or unacceptable behavior by the employees. Even though you do not suspect or accuse any of your employees of behaving in such manner but you might actually be surprised of what you will find. A British anesthesiologist was scheduled to prepare a young female patient for a surgical operation on a weekday. Part of his duties was to anesthetize the patient. After preparing the patient and anesthetizing her, she quickly became unconscious. Instead of heading out the room and informing the doctor that the patient is ready, the anesthesiologist chose to involve himself in indecent conduct with the young unconscious woman. Fortunately there was a surveillance camera in the surgery room. The recorded video footage led to his arrest and prosecution.
Security cameras will also save hospitals a significant amount of money due to false claims and accusations. Many dishonest patients try to take advantage of the law by claiming that they got injured on the hospital's property thus forcing the hospital to compensate them financially for their suffering. By having security footage of the incident in question you can quickly prove the truthfulness or frailness of an accusation.
These were a few advantages to having video surveillance cameras in hospitals and medical facilities. No medical facility should go with out these essential and vital security devices.
