Healthcare system utilizing security technology

A Healthcare system in the state of Iowa is addressing the subject of security before problems arise in a similar manner to a doctor who suggests his or her patient obtains treatment early before their condition complicates further. On top of providing outstanding outcomes for its patients, this healthcare system is stepping forward to raise the bar for security systems through providing ID cards connected to access management interfaces.
Following the tragic events of 9/11 fear of terrorism as well as bioterrorism unveiled a new aspect of security to healthcare systems in the United States. These threats have urged healthcare centers from all around the US to improve security systems and put a stop to illegal actions and behaviors. The employees of the Healthcare center still demand freedom of access, particularly in emergency circumstances, when they have to move quickly to access supplies, medication, and other apparatuses.
According to the director of safety, security and environmental health for the Healthcare center, as soon as the healthcare center establishes an additional barrier in front of thieves and would be robbers, it becomes an enormous mental and physical disabler they want to supply ease of access, however at the same instant, they also want to enhance the standards of surveillance, which requires a skilled ability to balance the two goals.
At one time, hospitals have constantly produced an open and welcoming environment. On the other hand, as healthcare systems increase standards of security and surveillance, they generate additional inconvenience to guests, patients as well as workers and staff members. for a system at the size of a Healthcare center, amplified hassle can be a considerable challenge to patient and worker associations.
This Healthcare center was started with about fifteen hospitals contributed by a famous church in the mid 70's. In the present day, it is a converged system of doctors, health plans as well as over twenty hospitals from a variety of neighboring states. This healthcare centers spends all of it efforts in trying to become a model healthcare system that is worthy of emulation by others healthcare centers, not only in clinical outcomes, but also in price efficiencies and implementations and procedures. Part of that plan is its access card interface.

Accomplishing more with few resources
Furthermore ID cards are utilized throughout the hospital to serve two main purposes: access management and visual recognition.
The director of safety for the Healthcare center reported that they added proximity access management devices in all hospitals in about two years ago. Prior to their deployment they utilized cards with a bar code for payroll and detection, along with a classic key interface. at the moment, they have proximity access management apparatus all through the entire system, utilizing a Kronos time and attendance system with DSX, Continental and C-CURE access management application."
These access cards enable workers to enter approved areas, capture time and attendance as well as provide visual verification for patients and guests. Workers, certified clinical practitioners, volunteers, students, suppliers and even families of the sick who experience a prolonged stay are provided with access cards with varying ranks of security and admittance.
The director of safety for the Healthcare center also reported that they utilized Fargo printers ever since they started to print access cards; Fargo was suggested by their access management interface suppliers.
As of today, the healthcare center has more than twenty printers with direct-to-card ability. The print head comes in direct contact with the access card, generating high resolution facial images and fine detail around regions that are security-sensitive such as the eyes, improving the capability to make visual verifications.
The director of safety further explained that a number of their smaller, rural hospitals utilize Fargo's smaller Persona C30 printers as they may only produce one or two cards on a monthly basis.
The director of safety for the Healthcare center was assigned the main task of choosing the printer, assisted by representatives from human resources and surveillance, where the printers are located. All what he was sure of is that he needed double-sided printing with a speed element apposite for a large, interdisciplinary health system. He was also certain that the printer had to be dependable, but to anticipate any minor components; he looked for a company with service technicians in their region. Lastly, he needed sturdy, high quality of performance and clearly printed cards.
according to a manger of the  of Interstate Business Products, who sold the printers to the health care center , the director of safety for the Healthcare center preferred the simplicity of the DTC copiers, due to the fact that they were easy to clean and manage, and they operate silently.

A modern perspective
about six months ago the healthcare center went through a rebranding procedure where it changed spelling of its name and created a new logo for its marketing purposes. This process demanded that all the re-badging of all the employees, physicians, staff members, vendors, students (interns, residents and those on rotation), as well as volunteers in the facility.
The Director of safety for the Healthcare center reported that they accomplished all of this within only a couple of months. A single hospital will be the only facility still waiting for an upgrade to a proximity system after this year ends.
White horizontal badges that display a photo and name is what the Employees, physicians and volunteers at IHC now wear every day to their work. However there is a single exclusion to this. Due to the elevated security pertaining to the care of infants, clinical caregivers who transfer infants are required to wear bright, pink cards to identify themselves with no trouble from a far location. Furthermore, A bar code on the back of workers and physician cards allows them to utilize the access management interface for time and attendance and to record attendance at in-service and training conferences.
Adding on, Students and instructors are issued vertical badges with graphic designs that are color-coded which diverge depending on the time of year. On the other hand vendors, guests, contractors and temporary workers receive generic, vertical badges without any bar code or the logo of the healthcare center. In addition to that, vendor badges also expire on a yearly basis which is a terrific added security measure

.
Future Security capabilities
According to Director of safety for the Healthcare center, the healthcare system presently is experimenting with a 3-D bar code to eventually utilize patient recognition at some time in the future. The system would contain a wrist band for the patient, enabling patients and staff members to be verified effortlessly and securely, while their activity is recorded.
The director of safety for the Healthcare center also noted that they will also continue to discuss the value of smart access cards, and will add that technology when the need comes up in the future.
For the time being, the healthcare center has made marvelous advances in consolidating its identification cards and access management application.
The Director of safety also pointed out that staff members with tasks and privileges at multiple hospitals were the primary reason behind the creation of a solitary access card since they did not want to carry half a dozen cards when they only needed to access one gate.
Furthermore, in order resolve the problem of getting doctors to wear their identification cards, the healthcare center turned to convergence.
The Director of safety for the Healthcare center reported they were able to connect access management to the parking lots and dining facilities. Only through wearing the identification card, physicians can effortlessly access dining areas, entrances, elevators as well as parking vicinities.
Thanks to the advanced printers of our modern era, they can make an eye-catching ID card that individuals are eager to display to the public. Nearly everyone understand the need to be effectively identified to the patients they take care of.
Furthermore, the director of the healthcare center admits that the factual, measurable advantage will only be realized in the far future, when the healthcare center recovers the upfront costs of the security system. Without a shadow of a doubt the decision to use ID cards for increased security has been a terrific choice.
As the saying goes: a person can not accomplish the business of the future with the utilities of the past.
