An immigrant family had just moved to the US. It was composed of four people: a father, mother, son, and daughter. They were living in an apartment in the state of New Jersey. The financial situation of the family was not going so well, so they called their relatives who were living in the state of Texas to talk about it. After discussing the situation for a while their relatives proved to them that the living expenses in the state of Texas were much cheaper than those in New Jersey. The family of four was convinced. And soon enough, they began their preparations to move to the state of Texas.

The family had a lot of items that they had to move to the Texas and could not carry them all at once. So they decided to break the luggage into two loads. They would take the first half of the load and deliver it to their new apartment in Texas and then they would come back to pick up the other half of the load. The plan looked perfect for the mean time. They packed the first load and got ready to leave the apartment. There were two doors to their apartment, one of them, which was the main entrance, was a really sturdy door which locks perfectly. However the second backdoor would not shut properly so they just locked it with a single nail, just to keep it from opening. They did not expect anything to happen since their apartment directly faced the police station.

They reached their new apartment with the first load of luggage and were very happy and content with the neighborhood, the surroundings, and the services available. As soon as they delivered their belongings they headed back to New Jersey. Upon entering the apartment, they noticed that their packed items were opened and their belongings were all over the place. And sure enough, they found the back door broken. Fortunately all the expensive items were packed in the first load and the thieves did not find anything valuable to take except a case of audio cassettes.

The family was happy that the thief did not find any thing worthy to take, but at the same time they were shocked at their gullibility and scared that somebody has been watching them all along while they were not paying attention and making plans to invade them just when they decided to travel. Even their next door police station failed to scare the thieves. And worst of all they had no idea who broke in their apartment, or when it happened or any specifics in regards to the case. Unfortunately, they decided to not report it to the police fearing that the investigation process might delay the process of moving out to their new home in Texas.

As you can see, no body is immune from these crimes, thieves might be eagerly watching your property for a significant amount of time to learn your habits and daily routine to enable them to attack at the right time without you even knowing what hit you. Obviously the family made a grave mistake by not securing their back door, but it is also apparent that the thieves knew exactly when the family was leaving, so they could have taken their time in cracking the front or back door open even if both doors were locked properly.

This entire ordeal could have been easily avoided if the family invested in a basic burglary alarm as well as a security alarm. In fact if they had even one security camera they might have been able to catch the perpetrator and immediately submitted the information to the police next doors. A burglary alarm system would also do the trick since it would automatically notify the nearby police that someone just broke in the apartment. Either one of these measures or both would have lessened the amount or even eliminated the emotional stress of finding that someone broke into your home and stole your property.

In the worst cases the family could have invested in fake cameras. These devices are effective in deterring away criminal activity, they literally make the perpetrators freeze and reconsider invading such a dangerous and risky place.

The problem with security and surveillance is that it is the last topic in most people’s list of priorities. It only becomes a number one priority when an incident happens and people become victimized by it, but unfortunately this might already be too late. The incident might cause you thousands of dollars or even the life of your loved ones that could have been easily prevented if you thought a minute about your security measures. Many people still depend only on locking the windows and doors to prevent thieves from burglarizing their home. But they can not realize that if a thief wants to invade your property he will have hundreds of ways to enter your property. A baseball bat, a knife, or even a gun might be too late or not effective at all when push comes to shove. And besides, why would you wait until a thief enters your home to start defending your property and yourself? Why not take the lead and do it early in the process by getting an security camera system?

You see, when a thief or perpetrator decides to rob a place he does not just jump into it, he first monitors and checks out the place, the surrounding area, and he may even monitor your personal habits for quite some time just to find an appropriate time to make his move with the least amount of risk. Another major thing that he looks for is if you have a surveillance camera system or a burglary alarm. If you have installed at least one outdoor camera or put a sign indicating that the area is monitored by surveillance video, he will immediately rethink his choice about your property and might even move away to another unprotected location. So take advantage of this fact and act today to secure your property and loved ones from eminent danger.
