Atlanta police believe that a gas station’s surveillance camera caught images of the man who shot and killed a teenager early Saturday outside his father’s recording studio in Midtown.

Now they just need to find out who he is.

The surveillance footage isn’t clear or close enough to give police a description of the shooter, but it does give detectives a rough idea how the shooting unfolded.

Adair Freeman, 19, running an errand for Hot Beats recording studio, walked over to a nearby Shell gas station to buy some groceries, Atlanta police Detective Danny Agan Jr. said.

He bought some items and left the store, walking through the parking lot, Agan said.

But as he walked past the suspect’s vehicle — a white pickup truck, possibly a Chevrolet — he turns around and heads back to the store.

Freeman either forgot to buy some ice or someone called and asked him to pick up some, Agan said. The surveillance footage shows him talking on his cell phone when he walked back into the store.

Meanwhile, a man gets out of the driver’s side of the pickup, but it’s not clear where he goes, Agan said.

It does, however, appear that the man waits for Freeman to walk back to the recording studio, Agan said.

“I’m pretty positive that’s the shooter,” Agan said. “I don’t know if he knew him or assumed he was coming back that way. He was definitely waiting for him to come back.”

As Freeman walked back to his father’s studio, gunshots were heard on the surveillance footage, though the shooting was out of view, Agan said. Freeman was shot at least twice.

Freeman might have been targeted because of a necklace that was loaded with fake diamonds. The robber took the necklace off Freeman, but left about $92 that was in the young man’s pockets, Agan said.

It appears that at least one other person was in the white pickup and moved into the driver’s seat during the robbery. The apparent shooter could be seen getting into the passenger seat before the pickup rode off.
