We all know the story of the three little pigs. The first house was made of straw, the second of sticks and the third was made of bricks. The first house fell almost instantly; the second house took a little longer, but none the less, met the same fate as the first. The third house withheld against the torrential blows of the wolf and afforded the pigs an opportunity to defend themselves. Let’s adapt this analogy to the real world for a second and bear with me because I know this analogy is a bit pre-school.

Most of our customers tend to be businesses or home owners, but this is a post for the home owners. There are different reasons that I’ve mentioned before why home surveillance is important, but after hearing Tony talk to a guy about why he should put in a home surveillance company, I think it’s something that deserves to be brought up once more. There are three levels of home security in a sense; one made of straw, one made of sticks and one made of brick.

The straw house would represent a home without a home security system or a home surveillance system. The only thing this house protects against is the elements in a sense. As per wikipedia.org, the median home price in the United States was $213,900 in the fourth quarter of 2005. That means half of all homes sold were under that price, and the other half was over that price. I don’t even want to talk about homes that expensive, so let’s look at a $120,000 house. The average home security system runs about $300 for the install and roughly $40 a month. With the numbers I’ve used it would cost a person 0.65% of the cost their house to install a security system. Less than 1% of your investment would provide your home with a defense not only against burglars, but also against potential fire and flood. Let’s call the house with the security system the one made of sticks.N

Now, how do we turn the house made of sticks into one made of bricks? Let’s imagine a house is being burglarized. Even with an alarm system you would only know after the intruder has broken into your home and tripped the motion sensor device. This gives you very little time to defend against the intruder, it merely allows for help to arrive at your home after the fact to make sure you are okay. What if you could be more proactive? At http://www.2mcctv.com/ we have a 6 camera home security system for around $2500, or 2.1% of the price of a home. This 6 camera system would allow for motion sensing cameras at the doors and at all four corners of the home. Now if some one is at your front door, you can see who it is and what their intentions are before they break in. This gives you and your family valuable minutes to defend against a home intrusion. Let’s also remember this is in addition to the fact that most burglars do not want to be identified and the sight of a camera might deter them all together. Finally, let met ask this question. Do you think those first 2 pigs would have invested in a brick home like their brother if it was only a 3% additional cost to their original investment?
