CCTV cameras have captured the unnerving scenes of a Mafia boss being executed in broad daylight by a hired gun as outside a bar in Naples, Italy.
53-year-old Mario Bacio Terracino was shot in the back of the head in what police believe was an ongoing feud with a rival gang over the control for a profitable drug trafficking ring.
Terracino was known to police as a bank robber and was accused, but not convicted of a $2 million heist in 1991.
The Mafioso’s trademark was said to be entering buildings through the sewer tunnels.
Police have released CCTV footage from a security camera in a bid to catch the hitman.
Police said in a statement: ‘We are taking the unusal step of releasing this graphic footage in an attempt to catch his killer.
‘His face although hidden is visible and someone out there must recognise him and we would appeal for them to come forward.’
Tarracino is seen smoking a cigarette outside a bar in the central Sanita neighbourhood in the southern Italian city of Naples, where the Mafia are known as the Camorra.
The killer enters the bar then emerges and shoots Tarracino at point blank range.
When Tarracino falls to the ground, the assassin kills him off with a bullet to the head.
A woman is seen scratching a lottery ticket as Tarracino is killed in front of her.
There have been more than 30 Camorra murders in Naples this year alone, many of which remain unsolved.
The Italian government has flooded Naples with troops in a bid to stem organised crime, but with little effect.
One of the goriest hits happened last September, when six Africans were shot dead outside a shop for trying to muscle into the drugs trade.
