LUVERNE, Minn. — A landowner suspicious of possible thefts from his rural property set up a digital video recorder that eventually led authorities right to five Rock County teens who have been charged with burglary and theft.

The teens are accused of taking thousands of dollars in power tools, guns and other stuff on two occasions in late July and early August from an unoccupied Beaver Creek, Minn., farm site.

In connection with the incidents Eric Jon Kooistra, 19, Beaver Creek, Shane Kevin Oehlerts, 19, Luverne, and Chaiden Peter Kuehl, 18, of Beaver Creek, were each charged with two counts of second-degree burglary and three counts of theft, all felonies. Ethan Warren Rozeboom, 19, of Hills, and Ashley Lynn Kurtz, 19, of Luverne, face one count each of second-degree burglary and theft, all felonies.

According to court documents, owners of the property had long been suspicious of possible vandalism and burglaries and so they set up a digital video recorder system on the property.

After the first theft, an acquaintance of the landowner was able to identify two of the suspects on video taken by the system. The owner inventoried what was taken and took it to authorities.

Shortly after the same farm site was hit again and this time the DVR system was taken along with thousands in other items.

Authorities then contacted Kooistra, whom allegedly was recognized from the video of the first incident, and he allegedly confessed.

All five are scheduled for a bail hearing on Nov. 16 in Rock County District Court.
