The D-Link DWL-8600AP Unified Access Point supports the next generation IEEE 802.11n standard.  This devices offers versatility and flexibility by being utilized as a standalone “fit” wireless Access Point (AP) or a “thin” managed AP manageable by a wireless switch, such as the DWS-4026.  An example of the versatility provided by the DWL-8600AP is that it can start off as a standalone AP and then later migrate to a centrally managed system with a D-Link unified wired/wireless switch.

Blazing Wireless Speeds

D-Link’s unified wireless access point support IEEE 802.11n which offers up to a six times increased throughput compare to existing 802.11a/g networks.  With Multiple In Multiple Out (MIMO) and wider bandwidth channels, this device increases transfer rates using 802.11 standard.

Advanced Power Saving

For advanced power saving, the access point features both scheduled and unscheduled Automatic Power Save Delivery (APSD).  Unscheduled APSD (U-APSD) power management method allows for the voice client to synchronize the transmission and reception of voice frames with the AP thereby going into power saving mode when not sending or receiving packets.

Self Configuration and Easy Installation

In conjunction with a DWS-4026 switch, the “thin” DWL-8600AP access point automatically self-configures when connected to the switch for easy installation.  When the unified access point is replaced, the replacement AP automatically inherits the same configuration as the original access point.

Intelligent “Fit” Access Point

The D-Link wireless access point allows network administrators the ability to set up a secure wireless network and to connect to any Ethernet switch and router.  For a secure network, the unified AP utilizes advanced wireless functions such as WEP data encryption, WPA/WPA2 security, client MAC address filtering, AP load balancing, QoS/WMM (Wireless Multimedia), and Rogue AP Detection.
