Thermal Imaging Cameras

A type of thermographic camera, thermal imaging cameras are used in the firefighting, police, and military industry. By rendering infrared radiation as visible light, the camera can reproduce an image through darkness or smoke. In addition to seeing through smoke, thermal imaging cameras can also see materials involved in spontaneous, low level combustion. Thermal imaging cameras, such as those by FLIR or "Forward Thinking Infrared", are not really security cameras as they go beyond normal surveillance cameras. Rather, they are devices which use infrared radiation for objects detection. The wavelength which they work on is 14,000nm. They are distinguished surveillance cameras and are easy to install and setup.

One of the most fruitful features of thermal cameras is their ability to work in complete darkness because these types of cameras use the heat emitted by the object. There is no need for sunlight or any type of light to assist from detecting objects.

Applications where thermal imaging cameras might be used:
- Military and police use them to detect and uncover terrorist activities, like bomb detection, thus, these security cameras are used as an anti-terrorism method to enforce law.
- Building technicians and construction workers use the thermal imaging feature to detect leaks, such as gas, water and heat leaks. They also can discover any hole or gap in the walls or in the ground. In this way they can maintain the structural integrity.
- Firefighters use these cameras as their sixth sense to detect any besieged people because by these cameras they can see through smoke and localize hot spots of fire.
