Cable Installation

IP cameras and Network Video Recorders (NVRs) use standard Ethernet cables, or as we previously called them: TIA-568B, to connect in IP surveillance systems.

For this reason, it is important to know the steps to put one together:

  1. Using a cable stripping tool, strip about 1/3″ of the out jacket of the CAT-5 cable. Be careful not to damage any inner cables.
  2. Assemble the pairs of wires in the following order for network cables: EIA standard: TIA-568B.
  3. Insert the wires carefully into the RJ45 jack. Pay close attention to the order of the wires.
  4. Finally, insert the RJ45 connector into the crimping tool. Crimp down firmly on the tool to attach the RJ45 jack to the CAT-5 cable.

Crossover Cable Diagram

As we previously mentioned, you can use the same wiring diagrams and instructions shown above to build a crossover cable. However, when you get to step 2; use the following diagram:

We hope you find the CAT-5 wiring diagram and crossover cable diagram useful and easy to follow.

One Comment

  1. The drawings are ambiguous. If you show straight through wiring with the connectors in mirror image, you have to flip one of them.
