HD digital video recorders can be classified in one of the following high definition technologies below:

HD TVI -High Definition Transport video interface ( Resolution available: 1080p 2 Megapixel, 5 Megapixel and 4k with no transmission delay, transmission distance up to 500 meters 1600 feet without boosting repeaters over coaxial cable, 700ft over twisted cable in comparison to cvi only 350ft, camera control over coax, lower cost than SDI, 720p camera signals can work with 1080p DVRs and visa versa, higher transmission reliability in compared to SDI.

HD SDI – High definition serial digital interface ( Resolution available: 1080p/720p, no transmission delay, transmission distance up to 100 meters 350 feet without boosting repeaters, camera control over coax, lower cost than IP, lower transmission reliability in compared to TVI, AHD or CVI. SDI technology has failed to run beyond 300 feet coaxial cable, allowing TVI and AHD to push it out of market.

HD CVI -High Definition Composite Video Interface ( Resolution available: 1080p 2MP, 5MP and 4k resolution with no transmission delay, transmission distance up to 500 meters 1600 feet without boosting repeaters over coaxial cable, 720p camera signals can only work with 720p DVRs , camera control over coax, lower cost than SDI, higher transmission reliability in compared to SDI. Dahua Technologies chipset is the only source for CVI DVRs and cameras.
